February 2024 update: Intersection improvements are underway at South Wadsworth Boulevard, and Morrison Road. Learn my by visiting Lakewood.org/ConeZone.

Peak View Park opened July 7! Learn more about the park below and download the park map.

Project Background

In 2018, the City of Lakewood acquired approximately 60 acres of the "Taylor Estate" to be forever preserved as open space. This stunning property can be viewed from South Wadsworth Boulevard between Morrison Road and West Vassar Avenue. The acquisition of the property, 2350 South Wadsworth Boulevard, was completed with the help and generosity of Jefferson County Open Space.

Take a virtual tour of Peak View Park!

Project Details
Intended to be a passive-use open space, the future Peak View Park will be a wonderful space to recreate and take in beautiful views. Park planning efforts were temporarily delayed to accommodate access to the site from Wadsworth. The consultant team for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is working on traffic studies, environmental clearances and engineering for the addition of an access point off Wadsworth and Morrison Road at the northwest corner of the park. While the access and phase one (to include a hard surface trail and parking lot) is targeted for completion in 2023, the city launched a public engagement process to determine the future look and feel for the park in 2021.

Help Name the Park

Most importantly, we need your help selecting a name for this exceptional addition to Lakewood Parks! Use the survey tab below to submit the perfect name for the park by April 30. We will narrow submissions to three choices and create a poll for this page to determine the winning name by May 30. The person who submits the winning name will receive a 2021 annual pass to Bear Creek Lake Park. Peak View Park was selected by residents as the new name for this park for its views of Pikes Peak.

Learn more about the site from a birds-eye view of the Peak View Park in the video below.

All future improvements will create a welcoming experience for all visitors. Use the tools below to provide feedback on the project and share ideas. Subscribe to this page for project notifications when new information becomes available.

    Hi there,
We are so glad you enjoyed one of Lakewood's newest parks! On a clear day the larger peaks visible are Pike’s to the south and Mt. Blue Sky to the west. Future anticipated park amenities include interpretive signs to identify some of the prominent landscape features visible to the west.

  • Share I'm excited about the Morrison/Wadsworth improvements at Peak View Park. I see that they include a sidewalk on the east side of Wadsworth from Woodard to Vassar. Does Denver have any plans on extending this from Vassar to Yale to provide a connection between Peak View Park and the Bear Creek Greenbelt. Having the sidewalk dead-end at Vassar seems a pity and a lost opportunity. All the best, Anders Ingemarson on Facebook Share I'm excited about the Morrison/Wadsworth improvements at Peak View Park. We are not aware of Denver's plans for this area, but have communicated this new park and future walk improvements. Hopefully this will increase demand and result in better connectivity on Denver's side as well.

    Hi there,

There will be access to the south side of the park via the new sidewalk on the East Side of Wadsworth when it is complete. Construction was delayed but is set to begin this fall including intersection improvements and this walk!

    Hope this helps,

Peak View Park is only accessible from S. Wadsworth Blvd. at this time. See the Peak View Map for options.

    Thank you for your question!

  • Share Are you planning on adding dog waste bag stations and trash cans throughout the park? There is a ton of dog poop along the sides of the sidewalk, and as a dog owner myself, would appreciate bag stations and trash cans next to where all of the benches are. It's a beautiful park, mine and my family's favorite actually, and believe adding trash cans and bag stations will help this beautiful place stay clean and free of waste! :) on Facebook Share Are you planning on adding dog waste bag stations and trash cans throughout the park? Hi there,

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion. I've shared with the parks team who is going to head out to find the best locations for dog waste stations that are also easy to service.

    Kind regards,

    Amber

  • Share Hi there. Love our new Peak View Park in lakewood and have 2 questions! 1. Since the park was named for Pikes Peak, could you install an additional sign or map at the park entrance showing the different Peaks viewable from the park? Which one is Pikes Peak?! 2. The map posted at the park it’s hard to read because it feels upside down! Looking at the sign is confusing- the map should show the park trails as if you’re looking south, which is what the view actually is. on Facebook Share Hi there. There is an ADA accessible loop that would be great for all abilities. At this time there is not a shade shelter, and the park is passive use open space. This means that outside the trails, it is native grasses and not irrigated grass areas.

    Hi there,

There have not been any specific snake sightings in Peak View Park, that said, open space areas are snake habitat across the City of Lakewood and residents should be on the lookout for snakes while using trails.
