February 2025 Update


Exciting news! The initial draft Comprehensive Plan materials are posted on Lakewood Speaks for the first Planning Commission Study Session February 19. Thank you to the thousands of community members who have participated in the process by sharing your stories and perspectives on Comp Plan topics, providing specific feedback through surveys, subscribing to the newsletter, attending events, and more! Your input has helped capture the shared vision, values and priorities for Lakewood within the draft Plan elements.

The Planning Commission meeting on February 19 kicks off the adoption phase of the project, Phase 3, and will include a series of meetings with Planning Commission and City Council. The scheduled meeting dates include:


Please note:

  • The draft materials submitted for the study sessions include the draft policy text and the draft future land use map only. The focus of the study sessions is to get final feedback on the draft Vision Elements, Future Land Use Elements and Glossary before these are incorporated into the formatted version of the Plan.

  • The formatted version of the Plan will bring these core elements together with images and supplemental narrative and this will be shared in the spring prior to the Public Hearings currently scheduled for April 9 and April 23 with Planning Commission and May 12 with City Council.

  • City Council and Planning Commission Open House

    As a first step in the update process, the city is having an informative open house for City Council and Planning Commission members to learn about the Comprehensive Plan and the upcoming update process. Residents, businesses, and community members are also welcome to attend.

    Open house details:

    • 5-7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 21 at the Lakewood Culture Center lobby located at 470 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood, 80226.
    • Focus of the open house is to provide information to City Council and Planning Commission on what a Comprehensive Plan is, how the city uses it and why we need to update it. There will not be a formal presentation.
    • Food and beverages will be provided.

    There is much more to come on this project, including numerous opportunities for community members to get involved and to participate in this planning process in the coming months and throughout 2024.
