Envision Lakewood 2040

The draft Vision, Goals, and Strategies for Lakewood's new Comprehensive Plan are available for review!

After nearly a year of community conversations about the vision and values for the future of Lakewood, the Envision Lakewood 2040 project team is excited to share the Draft Vision Elements for the updated Comprehensive Plan!

The Vision Elements include the Vision Statement, Guiding Principles, Goals and Strategies that will be incorporated into the full Comprehensive Plan document. Together, these policy elements articulate Lakewood’s vision, values and priorities that will guide city decision-making over the next 15 years.

Drafting these Vision Elements has been the focus of the City-Council appointed volunteer Advisory Groups (AG) during a series of ten meetings from May through November 2024 with an estimated 600+ hours spent by AG members reviewing, discussing, and refining these drafts with staff and consultant support and community input received through a community-wide survey and at two open houses. We’re asking community members for feedback on these draft Vision Elements prior to finalizing them for the full Comprehensive Plan adoption process with Planning Commission and City Council in early 2025. Please take a few minutes to complete this short 7 question survey by January 10, 2025 to help shape the city’s future through its Comprehensive Plan. Please encourage your friends, family, and neighbors who live, work or visit Lakewood to take the survey too!

Stop by an open house event to learn more about the Comprehensive Plan Update process, review draft plan elements, and participate in a series of activities that ask how you’d like to interact with and move about the community, which topics are most important to you, and how you’d like to be involved with and informed about the plan’s implementation.

All ages are welcome! Food, prize giveaways, and kids’ activities included! To create an inclusive and welcoming engagement process, we will be hosting two open house events – one in English and one in Spanish. As the same materials and activities will be presented at each event, please attend the event that’s most comfortable for you. Parking is available, and both locations are served by public transportation.

Come find our table at Jeffco Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 10th, from 9am to 2pm! The bash will be at Jeffco Stadium here in Lakewood (500 Kipling St. Lakewood, CO, 80226)

We will have a fun activity for kids, families, and community members to participate with along with some treats to show our appreciation to you all!

The Results Are In! From January to February 2024, we asked the Lakewood community 4 simple open-ended questions to help understand what the community values about Lakewood and to start to identify what challenges and opportunities need to be addressed through the Comprehensive Plan update.

In total, we received 2,097 survey responses made up of over 92,000 words and we are excited to finally share what we heard! Check out our summary of the survey results by clicking the link below.

Join us at an Open House on April 16!

The city is hosting an Open House on April 16 to share the results from the vision and values survey and to promote the Advisory Group application.

• Time: Stop by anytime between 12pm-1:30pm or 5pm-6:30pm, there will not be a formal presentation.

Thank you to all who took the survey and for those who have been involved in community conversations so far. We've heard from many Lakewood residents and are looking forward to hearing from you all over the next few months.

Since January 2024, we have:

• Mailed 85,000+ postcards in Looking@Lakewood
• Received ~2,000 survey responses
• Attended 10 community meetings and events
• Spoken with 300+ community members at meetings and events

What we have heard from you so far

Through the survey and community conversations, we've heard from many residents about what they love about Lakewood and what can be improved. Many residents have shared that they love Lakewood's proximity to the mountains, access to beautiful parks and open space, and community (including friends and family). We’ve also heard your concerns about homelessness, public safety, air quality, safer transportation infrastructure, housing, and affordability.

What’s coming in the next few months?

• This spring we will be transitioning the focus from visioning and issue identification into problem-solving and brainstorming solutions.
• As part of the next phase, Advisory Groups will be formed to brainstorm solutions to the concerns and challenges the community identified through the survey and other engagement activities during the first phase. An application to participate on the Advisory Groups will be available this spring and all interested community members are encouraged to apply. More details about the Advisory Groups and the application process will be available later this month.

We will be starting to send monthly newsletter updates, so be sure to sign up if you haven't already.

One of the first big ways to participate is by answering a four question survey to help us identify our shared values and vision for Lakewood’s future and the important topics we need to address in the updated Plan. The survey will be posted on this website this month and will be open until Feb. 29.

SURVEY HAS CONCLUDED

After the City Council and Planning Commission Open House in August, the Comprehensive Plan team has been working to develop all the ways for residents, businesses and community members to participate and provide their thoughts and ideas for the update process (through 2025). It will include a variety of ways for everyone to learn, ask questions, and provide input and feedback. Much more to come soon, so please stay tuned to this project page for details.
