Thanks to community input, the Two Creeks Park site plan is approved! Staging and park construction began the week of February 3, 2025.
Updating the site plan for Two Creeks Park was a first step in bringing the vision of the park to fruition, an effort that will enhance the community's access to nature, outdoor recreation and safer bicycle and pedestrian connectivity.
What's happening with the trees in the park?
The park site required grading to realign and stabilize the creek. Grading will create an accessible trail through the park, ensuring all visitors can safely enjoy the space.
Additional Trees: This project will introduce 111 new trees to the park, enhancing the natural beauty and environment of the area.
Nuisance Trees: Most of the trees being removed are Siberian Elm trees and considered nuisance trees that would only remain in undeveloped parks or open spaces. These trees may sucker or distribute seeds which are very difficult to maintain in developed park spaces like Two Creeks Park.
Repurpose: As part of the City of Lakewood's commitment to sustainability, the trees being removed will be repurposed. The project team will utilize these trees to create log balance beams, log steppers, and entry elements for the playground area. Any leftover wood is being chipped to create mulch, which will be used throughout the park.

Project Background
The Two Creeks Park site is 3.8-acres and meanders between West 12th and West 10th avenues just east of Wadsworth Boulevard. The main unifying element of the site is Dry Gulch, bisecting the site from northwest to southeast. The recent purchase of property currently housing a car wash brings new opportunities to provide accessible park facilities along Wadsworth and expand neighborhood park amenities.
The City of Lakewood hired Flow Design Collaborative to revisit the 2013 Two Creeks Park master plan in order to address these new opportunities and incorporate current community feedback in preparation for construction of the park, currently targeted for fall of 2024.
The overall goal of this planning effort is to provide much needed neighborhood park space and amenities, an off-street trail connection from West 10th to West 12th, and accessibility to the creek for park users.
