Fantastic job, everyone!
Congratulations to all the participants in this fun outdoor endeavor, and thank you so much for getting out into the parks and documenting your visits. The 180 submissions represent an incredible response. The winner has been notified by email, and Mayor Strom had a wonderful video message for everyone on the last day of the challenge.

Mayor Wendi Strom wants you to join her in a personal challenge as part of this summer's Mayor's Park Challenge:

"I want to get out, get myself in shape, and I invite you to join me!

This summer, I challenge each of you to get out to experience parks across Lakewood that you've never visited. Find a full list of the city’s parks, along with a map, at Lakewood.org/ParkList. In fact, let’s make some fun out of it! Today I'd like to introduce the Mayors Park Challenge. Consider it a summer reading program for your body!

Each time you visit a new park, take a selfie with the park’s sign, and submit it at the Selfie submission tab below. When you submit your photo, check out some fun facts about the park you snapped the selfie in. Each park selfie will be entered into a drawing for the fantastic grand prize of dinner for two at Lakewood's own Casa Bonita!" (Read the full mayor's column in the June edition of Looking@Lakewood, the printed newsletter mailed to addresses in the city.)

Yes, you read that right, a dinner for two at the famous Casa Bonita! Submit a selfie by Sept. 30 to be entered in the drawing.

Check out the mayor's first selfie from a park in the news feed, which includes some park tidbits.

New: Are you a local business interested in donating additional prizes for this initiative? Fill out our form and city staff will be in touch!

Mayor Strom has made it her goal to visit 30 Lakewood parks in the month of September, or one per day. She managed the first week successfully, visiting several parks including Aviation Park, Morse Park, James J. Richey Park and Jewell Park!

It's a great time of year to get out and enjoy the sunshine, particularly as the weather cools off toward the end of the month. Keep submitting your photos and visiting all the great parks Lakewood has to offer - Mayor Strom is looking forward to presenting the lucky winner of the challenge's grand prize, dinner for two at Casa Bonita!

Check out Mayor Strom's photos from Addenbrooke Park, one of the city's large community parks. The park is named for the Addenbrooke family who lived on the property for more than 100 years. The park has a spacious grassy area ideal for playing soccer, Frisbee, volleyball or eating an afternoon lunch outside. It's also popular for flying kites.

Lakewood has 114 parks, 240 miles of trails and more than 7,400 acres of open space, which accounts for one-quarter of all the land in Lakewood. Visit the park list below to see all the parks listed by name A-Z, and check out the map to see where each park is located. If you decide to visit all 114 parks like the mayor, please keep in mind that 22 of the parks include new parkland, green spaces, and undeveloped parks that do not have permanent park signage or amenities and are not regularly checked for safety hazards.

    Park tidbits

Did you know that a park in Ward 4 is dedicated and named in honor of a Tuskegee Airman? In 2019, City Council renamed a Glennon Heights neighborhood park as the James E. Harrison Park at the request of residents to honor Harrison’s years of service to the Lakewood community through his work on the city’s incorporation and leading his homeowners’ association and neighborhood watch program.

Each park's webpage provides more details about the park, so use the park list to find out more about the parks you visit as part of the Mayor's Park Challenge.
