Free-roaming cats urinating and defecating in and on community garden produce
Per Animal Control on the Lakewood, Colorado website, "Cats are free-roaming and do not require a leash when outdoors."
I live next to Jefferson Green Park and although our community has rules prohibiting unleashed cats or dogs on the property, these rules are not enforced for cat owners. On a daily basis, year round, "free-roaming" cats wander the neighborhood, including Jefferson Green Park, stopping anywhere and everywhere to urinate and defecate at their leisure. Cats don't care - they'll 'spray' your tomatoes, your greens or your pretty flowers, then poop on your pumpkin.
Nothing is better than fresh food straight from the garden but . . . who wants to invest money, time and effort creating that garden, only to have it soiled by a cat, due to improper animal control laws in Lakewood.
