Ute Trail Playground Renovation

Consultation has concluded.

The playground renovation at Ute Trail Park (13600 W Jewell Ave) was completed in January 2019.

In August 2018, a request for proposals was advertised resulting in the submittal of several options for consideration from five Colorado vendors. The options submitted, including those that looked at retaining the existing metal climber, varied in terms of size, components and play activities that could fit within the existing concrete play ring defining the area for renovation. All options also addressed the need to meet current ADA requirements, requiring removal of the existing pea gravel, and the installation of a concrete ramp and surfacing for wheelchair accessibility.

After review, City staff selected three options for further consideration. Criteria used to compare the submittals included:

• Meeting the budget limitation of $60,000 for all work required to remove existing equipment and to install new equipment and an ADA accessible ramp and surfacing;
• Provide play equipment meeting safety requirements established by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Handbook for Public Playground Safety;
• And provide a variety of play structures and components with activities and events suitable for multiple age groups.

Neighbors ranked the three proposals and chose Proposal #2 as the best fit for their new playground! Thank you to those that participated in the selection process.

The Ute Trail Park playground renovation is funded by a Neighborhood Participation Program (NPP) grant submitted by the South Green Mountain Improvement Organization and approved by the Lakewood City Council. The NPP gives community organizations a chance to submit applications to receive city funding for small-scale projects they believe would make a difference in improving their neighborhood.
