Walking and biking are incredibly unsafe

Walking and biking anywhere in Lakewood is incredibly dangerous. Not because walking or biking is dangerous itself, but because we don't have sidewalks, don't have protected bike lanes, and nearly all of our transportation infrastructure is designed for people who are able to drive cars.

I bike and walk for the majority of my trips, and I feel like a second class citizen to the city despite not causing damage to the roads I pay for and not polluting the air our children breathe. It just makes me sad that I have to worry for my life every time I want to get groceries, go to the doctor, or go for a walk. If we prioritized people outside of cars even half as much as people in cars, I'd feel a lot safer walking in my own neighborhood.
