Consultation has concluded

We want to hear from you
As a neighboring resident to the Beech Park dog off leash area, we are asking for your feedback on this park space. The City of Lakewood has received requests for mitigation of the conflict between dogs enjoying this space and cyclists and pedestrians cutting through the off leash area. There have been reports of close calls and accidents due to this interaction and the steep grades of the site.

Background
Several mitigation strategies are in place including signage, fencing, repeated closure of social trails other than the two perimeter trails and education by parks staff. The city has received requests to close the area to bikes allowing only dogs, while others have enjoyed the short cut to William F. Hayden Park or teaching their kids how to ride in the park. It is important to note, this location is not suitable for a completely fenced in dog park due to storm water regulations.

Next Steps
We would like to facilitate a neighborhood conversation about the future of this space. Please share your comments, ideas or ask a question by May 31. Subscribe to this page for updates.
