Changes coming for West 14th and Carr intersection
Consultation has concluded.
UPDATE: Thanks everyone for providing your thoughts on this project. Comments for it have now closed. Based on the feedback received on the project, staff has made the decision to proceed with construction of this project. Work is now underway on the steps needed to start construction. We'll update this page with details about the construction as soon as we have them.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The city is reviewing a potential change to the intersection of West 14th Avenue and Carr Street that would make it a four-way stop controlled by stop signs, and the current outdated traffic signal would be removed. The reason for the proposed change is this intersection has low traffic volume, few turning vehicles and substandard pedestrian and bicycle facilities. With the low traffic volume, the traffic signal adds an unnecessary delay to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists alike, and an all-way stop will minimize delays caused by the traffic signal. Beginning mid-July, the city will temporarily make the intersection a four-way stop for about 90 days to assess how the change would serve the neighborhood's needs.

Love it
I think there are better ways to spend the city’s money. That intersection badly needs sidewalk improvements and road work, which would have a much more positive impact to the neighborhoods residents
I got hit by a car running the stop sign and was thrown off my motorcycle on Saturday September 11th at this intersection. The signal is absolutely necessary for the width of the street and the 30mph
I lived at 13th and Carr for 8 years, and had a green light going north from my house maybe 3 times. The previous allocation of signal time heavily preffered 14th street. A stop sign would be better.
I think the traffic lights were better at keeping the flow of traffic moving and the ability to turn while someone else is still continuing on their forward trajectory.
I live 2 blocks away and pass through this intersection several times daily. I wholly support these changes on the grounds of both safety and convenience.
As a person who relies on a wheelchair for mobility, I am very happy to see these changes. A sidewalk from James Richey Park to the bus stop on Colfax and Carr would be very helpful.
From looking at the project timeline, it looks like this change has been well researched by the transportation engineers and that the pros outweigh the cons.
I was almost broadsided this morning by a vehicle going east on 14th - despite the flashing light the vehicle did not even slow down. I'm dubious that stop signs will make the intersection safe.
I think it's great. I often use 14th instead of Colfax . Someone on Nextdoor stated that people don't know what a 4-way stop is. Really- perhaps they're shouldn't be driving. They do blink red!
All-way stop is an improvement over the signal. Get rid of the right-turn slip lane on the NW corner as it only encourages speeding.
I have been thru this intersection 4 times since the stop signs went up.. seems good.. ditch the traffic lights
I have been thru this intersection 4 times since the stop signs have gone up.. no wait and seemed good. ditch the light.
I drive thru this intersection almost daily. I feel the stop lights actually are a benefit to slowing down the traffic. Carr has become a race track with everyone speeding to make the laights.
Finally!! Thank you!! After 14th & Carr becomes a four-way-stop, let's do the same to 10th & Carr!
The folks that are recommending this obviously never drive on Carr. Very few people stop at the one on Brentwood & North 6th Frontage road. The light works - why not leave it alone? Spend better!
