Throughout the development of the 2017 Imagine Lakewood! arts, parks and recreation master plan, Lakewood residents spoke up and said that adding more community gardening opportunities is important.
In the spring and summer of 2018, the City engaged with residents about where there might be interest in developing a new community garden. A survey and public meetings yielded sufficient excitement and interest about a garden in southeast Lakewood and specifically Jefferson Green Park, 3333 S. Field Court. I joined a community garden because I live in a townhome without a yard. What started out as a wish for a few tomatoes, turned into my summer adventure story! You learn there is no one way to grow vegetables, and how many kinds of vegetables there are!
It is wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the fresh air, enjoying community, and learning from each other.

I'm not currently a member of a community garden, but when I talk to people who are, the number one thing they talk about is the social aspect of gardening with others. Honestly, I usually find myself envious of the kind of friendship and camaraderie they develop. I want in on that! (plus, I think I would pick up some handy tips from my fellow gardeners)
